## Philosophy

- **Tools, not judgment.** Lockteens will never tell you what is bad or good. You set the rules, not us — every family draws the line somewhere different, and the app respects that.
- **Whitelist, not blacklist.** Most filters allow everything except what's been blocked; that can't keep up with an infinite internet. Lockteens flips it: everything is blocked except what you explicitly open. Safer by default, precise control.
- **For people managing themselves.** Not every user is a kid. Self-locks let an adult put a rule on themselves — with no one else holding the keys and no backdoor until the timer runs out.

## The apps (Android today; iOS in test phase; Windows in development)

- **Lockteens Browser** — the safe browser that enforces your filter rules, with deep in-page filtering (e.g. allow Reddit but only specific subreddits).
- **Lockteens VPN (VPNAB)** — system-wide filtering. Catches traffic beyond the browser, blocks or allows whole websites in every app, and blocks other VPNs once set.
- **Image Filter (Image Engine)** — blurs or blocks inappropriate images before they render, powered by an external AI server.

## What you can do

- Website filter: block the sites you don't want, allow the ones you do.
- Whitelist mode: only the sites you list are open. Strict, simple, clear.
- Approval requests: kids ask for a site with one tap; you accept or deny instantly, from anywhere.
- AI parent: like a human parent, but you pick the personality — approves, denies, nudges based on rules you set.
- Image filtering on the fly.
- Self-lock by timer: dangerous requests (like opening all websites) take hours or days to approve; safe requests are approved instantly.
- Self-lock by GPS: rules change by location — focus at home, freedom outside, or the other way around.
- Night mode and Morning mode: stricter rules after bedtime, a clean focused window for school hours.
- Devices & bypass protection: every phone is bound to your account; MDM + VPN + Browser together shut down the usual tricks (uninstalling, rogue browsers, second Google accounts, factory reset).
- Guild: community-powered filtering — share the whitelist work; run the guild as a dictatorship, a democracy, whatever fits your group. Nothing is accepted unless it passes a vote.
- Cloud sync: rules, whitelists and history live in the cloud; install on a new phone, log in, everything's there.

## Pricing

Free plan with no time limit. Premium ($1.84/month — currently free while Lockteens is in pre-release) adds the right to use the VPN-AB app and the Lockteens Browser. Premium is bought from the dashboard and applied per person — you don't have to upgrade everyone. Cancel any time, no contracts.

## Key facts (from the FAQ)

- For teens and above; not built for small kids.
- Manage everything from the web dashboard in any browser; only the filtered phone needs Android.
- Up to 99 kids per account; a kid has one human parent, and can also have an AI parent.
- You can be both a kid and a parent at the same time.
- Privacy: web history stays on the device and is never shared. Only your settings and whitelist are stored (on Google Cloud). No selling or sharing data. Deleting your account deletes your data.
- Image filtering sends images to an external AI service (Gemini or Grok) for classification; the Lockteens team never sees them.
- Works in incognito mode. Doesn't work offline (nothing to filter). Light on battery.
- Difference from Bark/Qustodio/Family Link: most competitors use blacklists and slick-but-limiting interfaces; Lockteens is whitelist-first with bulk control.
